Osborne Collection

Tomorrow the Children's and Young Adult Literature class will visit the Osborne Collection at the Toronto Public Library.

I have a particular interest in the The Lillian H. Smith Collection: picture books, fairy tales, fiction and poetry prinited in English since 1910. Lillian Smith was hired by the TPL in 1912. Her work and vision was the inspiration for this fabulous collection. You can find the Collection here.

The Osborne Collection also houses the Canadiana Collection, which features the the manuscript for the first Canadian picture book, An Illustrated Comic Alphabet (1859).

Quote of the Day:

My lifelong love affair with books and reading continues unaffected by automation, computers, and all other forms of the twentieth-century gadgetry.
-- Robert Downs (1903-1990)
